'94 Fender Jazz Fretless

I picked this one up in 1993 at Sam Ash as well, a few hours after buying Weather Report's "Heavy Weather". I hadn't planned on buying a bass that day, but this Japanese-made Fender played well and fell within my price range, so I went for it. The dimensions on this bass are very similar to the other jazz, so it was a relatively simple transition. I replaced the stock pickups with bartolinis. I string it with nylon tapewound strings and set it up with high action for a deep thumpy tone. I used to play this bass when I felt really comfortable with the material a band played. I recently used it in the studio on a track for Rick Rourke called "Desperate World."
